Populist and nativist attitudes: Does ingroup-outgroup thinking spill over across domains?

What are the attitudinal consequences of growing pervasiveness populism and nativism? We conceive both nativism as binary moral frameworks predicated on an antagonistic relationship between ‘us’ ‘them’. Our study investigates presence spillover effects these two forms ingroup-outgroup thinking among survey respondents in Netherlands. posit that exposure to populist (nativist) messages fuels (populism), but only those positively predisposed toward first place. A experiment, focusing antipathies refugees Muslim immigrants, confirms former expectation, a second experiment calls into question latter hypothesis. Moreover, does not replicate message general immigration attitudes. discuss several possible reasons for mixed results.
